Napoli earned a commanding 2-0 win against 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg on Tuesday. Goals from Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo sealed the result for the visiting club.

Osimhen, in fine form with 10 goals in his last nine matches, opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a simple tap-in at the far post. Di Lorenzo then added a second for Napoli late in the game as they took a commanding lead into the second leg.

Napoli's skipper Di Lorenzo doubled his team's tally with a sublime backheel assist courtesy of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who made up for his failure to convert a penalty in the first half.

After the match, Luciano Spalletti expressed his satisfaction, saying: "The lads put out a really strong display from the outset and did exactly what they set out to do. We just could have done with one more goal to make our job a little easier. That said, qualification is still very much in the balance heading into the return leg."

Frankfurt had Randal Kolo Muani dismissed with a red card in the 58th and were unable to compete with the Italians, who also struck the frame of the goal through Hirving Lozano. Immediately after, a penalty was awarded when Frankfurt's Aurelio Buta booted Osimhen as he tried to clear the ball. As such, Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte said, We need to be extremely humble because when you think you possess an advantage against an opponent, you could very well come across unforeseen circumstances. Pride is our biggest enemy.

Georgia's Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen have combined for 32 goals across all competitions for Serie A's runaway leaders this season, but Kvaratskhelia was unable to beat Kevin Trapp from the penalty spot. However, five minutes later Osimhen had better luck when Mexican Lozano darted down the right wing and sent in a low cross for the Nigerian to bundle home, making him the first Napoli player in two years to score 20 goals in all competitions in the same season.

Victor Osimhen scored his second goal in two Bundesliga matches as VfL Wolfsburg beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on Sunday. The Nigerian international opened the scoring after 13 minutes, finishing off an Alexsander Kolarov pass with a precise left-footed shot that beat Kevin Trapp. Osimhen almost doubled the hosts' lead a minute later, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

A golden chance to double the lead fell to close-season signing Giorgi Kvaratskhelia in the 57th minute, but Trapp was equal to his one-on-one effort after a Layun Lozano through ball. Frankfurt's turning point came a minute later when their top scorer Kolo Muani was given his marching orders for a clumsy challenge on Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Napoli began to increase their intensity of play, and were duly rewarded in the 65th minute when Kvaratskhelia collected possession in the penalty box, nipping the ball around before it reached Di Lorenzo who fired a superb strike into the far corner.

Following this, Mario Gotze of Frankfurt asserted that “We still have a second leg to play, they scored two goals here, why should we not be able to do that as well? We are aware of the fact that anything is still possible.”
