Experts Offer Predictions, Odds for PSG vs. Bayern, AC Milan vs. Tottenham and Chelsea in Champions League

14 February 2023, Tuesday
Category:
The Champions League is resuming and pundits are divided on the most significant clashes of the week. While some are predicting one outcome, others are leaning towards another. It's yet to be seen who will come out on top in the various matches that will be played this week. With the stakes so high, fans will be biting their nails waiting for the final outcome.

The much-anticipated 2023-24 UEFA Champions League knockout stage has arrived! Kicking off Tuesday is the massive clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, with Chelsea aiming to forget their recent Premier League struggles when they take on Borussia Dortmund. As always, you can watch the exciting competition across CBS platforms, with games airing on CBS and Paramount+. Don't miss out on any of the action!

One matchup to keep an eye on is between left-back Theo Hernandez and Tottenham's Pedro Porro. Hernandez has had a tough beginning to the year, but he has since reaffirmed himself as one of the top players in his position with an excellent assist against Torino last Friday. Porro, meanwhile, was far from impressive in his Tottenham debut over the weekend in a heavy 4-1 defeat to Leicester City and he needs to take a step up on Tuesday. The duel between these two will likely have a major say in the outcome of the game.

Harry Kane is making headlines as he recently achieved the record of being Tottenham's all-time top scorer and is now poised to capitalize on Milan's shaky defensive form. The Rossoneri have had a tumultuous start to the year, with only two victories since the World Cup break, and have conceded a total of ten goals in their last four fixtures (four against Lazio, five against Sassuolo and one against Inter Milan). This could provide Kane with a great opportunity to score a goal.

Ivan Perisic is undoubtedly a vital figure for this match, as his mastery of the San Siro was demonstrated when he helped Inter Milan to win the Scudetto in 2021 under Antonio Conte. He is a player who certainly can make the difference in a game that is likely to be very tactical. Therefore, it is no surprise that he is the chosen Man of the Match.

AC Milan will be looking to build on their first victory in over a month when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. Spurs, meanwhile, are coming off a heavy loss to Leicester City and will be seeking to bounce back straight away. Both teams have been struggling defensively and, for that reason, this could be a difficult game to predict. Therefore, it is likely that the scoreline will end all square, with a 2-2 draw seeming the most likely outcome.

One match-up to watch out for is Joao Cancelo versus PSG. The Portuguese defender was a surprise move for Bayern Munich when he joined them in January and his presence in their defense has revolutionised the way they play. It will be intriguing to see how he fares with the opposition when he goes up against the likes of Nuno Mendes on the right flank. Depending on the players that are available for PSG, this could be the most exciting duel on the pitch.
Eric Maxim Choupo Moting made an instant impact against his former team, PSG, when he scored for Bayern. The Cameroon forward has been in great form this season and it looks almost certain that he will get on the scoresheet over the two legs of this tie. Jonathan Johnson predicts that Gianluigi Donnarumma will be the Man of the Match, given his impressive performances of late. The Italian keeper will need to be at his absolute best if PSG are to stand a chance of progressing in the Champions League quarterfinals, as Bayern remain dangerous going forward. PSG, however, have been unreliable defensively since the restart of club action post World Cup.

Christophe Galtier's team are likely to be highly motivated for the upcoming match against PSG, having recently suffered defeat in the Coupe de France to rivals Olympique de Marseille. Expect a marked improvement in the performance of the hosts, who have recently been lacklustre, and it would not be a shock if they recorded a win with both teams finding the back of the net. This would help to set up an intriguing second leg next month.

One matchup to watch: The battle between Jude Bellingham and the Chelsea midfield will be intriguing to observe. Bellingham is a dynamic player and could provide a challenge that the Blues may struggle to handle. So far, Enzo Fernandez has been exceptional in matches where he has been able to dictate the play, but how he will fare against an experienced opponent like Bellingham remains to be seen.

Most likely to score a goal: Karim Adeyemi has been in impressive form as of late, with his wider role causing problems for opposing defensive lines. His pace could be a valuable asset against Chelsea, and he looks to be the most likely to get on the scoresheet.

If Chelsea manage to avoid a defeat, Thiago Silva is likely to be their standout performer but it looks like Dortmund will take this one and one individual in particular could be set to shine. Given his improvement, the spotlight focused on him, and the ways his talents would be useful against Premier League sides, it's almost certain that Bellingham will take the Man of the Match honours.

One matchup to watch: Goncalo Guedes and Goncalo Ramos versus Simon Mignolet. Benfica will have chances throughout the match due to Brugge's recent form, and Mignolet will need to be ready to make key saves and hold off the Portuguese side. If he can't keep the score close, then Benfica could potentially end the tie in the opening leg.

Most likely to score a goal: Goals could be hard to come by in this game, so Joao Mario stands out as the most likely person to score. His presence this season has been almost constant, and if Guedes and Ramos draw attention, he will have the space to make things happen. -

One matchup to keep an eye on is Goncalo Guedes and Goncalo Ramos versus Simon Mignolet. Benfica should have a good deal of opportunities in the match due to Brugge's recent struggles, but Mignolet is a goalkeeper that can pull off some spectacular saves to save his defense. If Mignolet is unable to keep the score close throughout the match, Benfica might be able to wrap up the tie early on.

The individual most likely to find the net is likely to be Joao Mario. He has been playing consistently well this season and should produce something in the match. While Goncalo Guedes and Goncalo Ramos will be the ones receiving the majority of the attention, this would free up Mario and give him more space to make things happen.

Joao Mario has been selected as the Man of the Match for this game. His impressive form for Benfica on the wing this season, having scored 12 goals and providing four assists, makes him the ideal candidate for this award. Brugge's style of play allows teams to have many chances from the sides, which is where Mario's strength lies. The only thing that could stop him from registering an assist or even a goal would be some incredible saves from Simon Mingolet. If he does manage to score Benfica's only goal, it should be enough to make him the Man of the Match.

Without the presence of Enzo Fernandez, Benfica will still likely be a difficult obstacle for Club Brugge to overcome. Since the break for the World Cup, Brugge have had severely limited success and have only won one match in all competitions. The resumption of Champions League play is occurring at a particularly bad time for them, and Benfica will leverage their strength to take the match 1-0.
