Cubs Reveal Lineup for Opening Day

The Chicago Cubs have announced the final 26-man roster for their 2023 season opener against the Milwaukee Brewers this afternoon. Added to the team from Triple-A Iowa is right-handed pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. Unfortunate for the Cubs, three players have been placed on the injured list retroactive to March 27th: right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks (15-day, right shoulder strain), left-handed pitcher Brandon Hughes (15-day, left knee inflammation) and outfielder Seiya Suzuki (10-day, left oblique strain). Below is a look at the complete Cubs Opening Day roster for 2023:

Marcus Stroman, RHP (11), Drew Smyly, LHP (12 - 60-day IL), Codi Heuer, RHP (60-day IL), Hayden Wesneski, RHP (19), Ethan Roberts, RHP (21 - 60-day IL), Brad Boxberger, RHP (25), Kyle Hendricks, RHP (28 - 15-day IL), Michael Fulmer, RHP (32), Justin Steele, LHP (35), Mark Leiter, Jr., RHP (38), Brandon Hughes, LHP (47 - 15-day IL), Jameson Taillon, RHP (50), Michael Rucker, RHP (59), Julian Merryweather, RHP (66), Keegan Thompson, RHP (71), Javier Assad, RHP (72), and Adbert Alzolay, RHP (73) are currently on the roster of the San Francisco Giants.

Smyly and Roberts are currently on the 60-day Injured List, while Hendricks and Hughes are on the 15-day Injured List. All other players are active and available to the team.

15-Yan Gomes, 18-Tucker Barnhart and 22-Luis Torrens are the three catchers. 1-Nick Madrigal, 2-Nico Hoerner, 7-Dansby Swanson, 16-Patrick Wisdom, 20-Miles Mastrobuoni, 30-Edwin Ríos and 51-Eric Hosmer are the seven infielders. 8-Ian Happ and 24-Cody Bellinger are the two outfielders, with 27-Seiya Suzuki on the 10-day injured list. Infielder-Outfielder 36-Trey Mancini rounds out the roster.
