3 Potential Trade Locations for DeAndre Hopkins of the Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly set to explore their options in the coming offseason by seeking out a potential trade partner for their star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Nuk is still a formidable and talented deep-target presence capable of making a profound difference to any team he'd join for the 2023 NFL season, and it is expected that there will be a lot of interest from across the league.

The Cardinals were a huge disappointment in the 2022 season, which could have been greatly improved if DeAndre Hopkins had been available from the outset. He was suspended for the initial six games due to a violation of the NFL's Performance Enhancing Drug (PED) policy. During that period, the Cardinals managed just two wins out of four. By the time he was back, the team seemed to be in too much disarray to make a comeback. Eventually, Hopkins ended the regular season with 717 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 64 receptions. Apart from the suspension, the absence of Murray due to injury surely hindered his effectiveness on the field.

Arizona's inconsistent performance could continue until 2023, with the club having recently parted ways with head coach Kliff Kingsbury plus Kyler Murray's season-ending injury. Suddenly, the Cardinals are not seen as a promising location for DeAndre Hopkins.

At the same time, Hopkins has very few prime years left. By the kickoff of the 2023 NFL season, he will be 31. However, he is still capable of dramatically improving the offense of any team with his talent and skill. So, here are three potential homes for DeAndre Hopkins outside of Arizona.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, if the Chicago Bears opt to select an offensive player with their top pick, they still need more talent to improve their offense. Justin Fields was tasked with carrying the majority of the load in 2022, as the Bears' passing attack was practically nonexistent. This was a result of the team's reliance on the run, as they led the league with a 56.19 percent rush play rate. Chicago also had the lowest passing yards per game, at 130.5, which undoubtedly held Fields back from developing further as a passer.

Fields would be bolstered by the addition of someone like DeAndre Hopkins to the roster. With an explosive receiver like Hopkins alongside him, Fields would be able to trust his arm and make Chicago's offense far less predictable. In 2022, Cole Kmet did his best, leading the Bears with 544 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, though he obviously wasn't the same caliber of player as the legendary Travis Kelce.

When it comes to upgrading, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones certainly knows how to pounce on an opportunity. After already showing interest in Odell Beckham Jr., Jones may now be considering trading for DeAndre Hopkins. According to recent reports, the Cardinals may be willing to part with the veteran wide receiver in the offseason. It wouldn't be surprising if the Cowboys were to at least explore the option of acquiring Hopkins and picturing him in a Cowboys uniform. On paper, Dallas may not appear to need Hopkins, but when it comes to getting an upgrade the Cowboys won't hesitate.

The future of Aaron Rodgers in the NFL is still uncertain. Nevertheless, if he chooses to continue playing for the Packers, Green Bay may want to invest in their receiving corps. Currently, the team has two promising wideouts in Romeo Doubs and Christian Woods, though both Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb might depart come the offseason. After all, Lazard topped the list of targets (100) and receiving yards (788) this last year. To entice Rodgers, the Packers should look into grabbing a talent like Hopkins.

If Aaron Rodgers were to choose to retire, the Packers would be under increased pressure to get a top-notch target for their passing offense, to simplify things for whoever takes Rodgers' spot - be it Jordan Love or another quarterback.
