After six years of co-hosting Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ryan Seacrest has decided to step down. On Thursday morning’s broadcast, he shared his bittersweet decision to make this his last season. The show will be rebranded as Live with Kelly and Mark, and Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos, who is already a fill-in on the program, will take Seacrest's place.

In a separate statement on Instagram, Ryan jokingly expressed his sadness of leaving his "work wife" and explained that he had prolonged his contract multiple times as a result of him having a great time working with Ripa. "When I signed on to host Live in 2017, it was set to be a 3-year engagement, yet I enjoyed the job and being with Kelly to the extent that I extended my stay and last year I made the conclusion to stay for one extra concluding season," he wrote.

On air, Ripa described Seacrest as a gem and one of her best friends.

"Having gone through this has been wonderful because you've grown from being a friend to a family member," Ripa said. There was a mutual display of emotions, with Ryan saying he was becoming sentimental but that he had promised Ripa he wouldn't shed tears.

Audiences will still be able to enjoy Ryan Seacrest's presence on Live with Kelly and Ryan until he transitions into a guest host role come springtime when he goes to Los Angeles to shoot the 21st season of American Idol. Additionally, fans of the show will still be able to hear Seacrest on his regular radio show as well as watch him on ABC's New Year's Eve telecast.

In a post, Seacrest wrote, "I'm looking forward to coming back to guest host in the future and Kelly, I promise to forever share my food photos, chicken eggs, and olive oil with you. And congratulations to my brother Mark, feel free to remodel my dressing room!"
