Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx has decided to drop the sex abuse charges against singer R. Kelly in Illinois. Kelly's lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, expressed her approval of the decision, stating that she believes it was not a good use of judicial, prosecutorial or taxpayer resources.

At a status hearing in R. Kelly's Cook County cases on Tuesday, members of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office requested that a judge dismiss the four sex abuse cases against the singer.

DeAngelo Brister, Kelly's friend, expressed his pleasure with the outcome: "I'm very pleased about the charges being dropped, so we can move on to the appeal process. Hopefully, we can get that done."

Kelly has already been convicted in two federal cases, one in New York and the other in Illinois. These cases stem from sex abuse, including child sex abuse in some cases.

Lisa Kelly, one of his sisters, spoke to ABC7 from out of state and said, “I'm glad for Robert...to finally get a positive outcome like this.”

R. Kelly is currently behind bars in Chicago, awaiting sentencing for the federal Illinois case next month, in addition to already serving a 30-year sentence for the New York case. Despite this, Kelly's lawyer, Steve Bonjean, stated that the recent verdict in the New York case "doesn't bring any relief" to his client.
