Birmingham Native Rickey Smiley’s Son, Brandon, Dies at Age 32

Rickey Smiley, a comedian and native of Birmingham, shared a heartbreaking announcement on Instagram Sunday morning that his son, Brandon Smiley, had passed away. 


In a video posted to the social media platform, Smiley said, "I have bad news this morning. I just want everyone to pray for me, pray for my family. My son, Brandon Smiley has passed away this morning. I hate to announce this. I just want to give it to you before you hear it in the streets."

The comedian then asked for everyone to pray for Brandon's mother and siblings, before he boarded a plane to Birmingham.

Rickey Brandon, a beloved figure in the Birmingham community, has passed away at the age of 32. 

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin was deeply saddened by the news, expressing his condolences in a social media post.

“I am devastated to learn of Brandon’s death. Rickey has given so much to our city; now it is time for us to give back to him and his family in the midst of this difficult time,” Woodfin said. “Let us join together in prayer and wrap our arms around him and his family.” 

Brandon was a strong supporter of his community and will be deeply missed.
