Warren Kole Confesses He Was Unfamiliar With Papa Roach’s ‘Last Resort’ Prior To Jeff’s Car Scene In ‘Yellowjackets’

In the Season 2 premiere of “Yellowjackets,” entitled “Friends, Romans, Countrymen,” Warren Kole’s Jeff is tasked with recovering his nearly-defunct furniture store while dealing with the aftermath of Shauna's (Melanie Lynskey) infidelity. Jeff and Shauna travel back to Adam's studio, where they unseal his shrine of Shauna sketches, before destroying all evidence of the affair. Despite their circumstances, they share an intimate moment on Jeff's desk before bed.
Warren Kole states that "it is evident Jeff loves Shauna" as she has been his childhood sweetheart. Still, Kole implies Jeff's ego is somewhat bruised by this. Later, while in the garage, reminiscing on the time spent with Shauna, Jeff seeks solace and plays the song "Last Resort" by Papa Roach.
Prior to filming a particular scene, actor Kole hadn't heard the 2000 hit that was to feature. "It was brand new to me. I hate it," Kole joked, noting that his character, Jeff, loves the song and can pick out the drum solo.
Kole explains that for Jeff, the song has taken on a different, more meaningful significance as it allows him to let out "this pressure valve" given he feels great distress and is out of his depth. Music supervisor Nora Felder furthers this notion, commenting that Jeff has been internalizing a lot of events from the previous season and the garage scene provides him with a moment to express this "helpless, almost primal inner rage" within him.
When it comes to his own release song, Kole mentions Kool and the Gang's "Jungle Boogie" as a fun choice and one which he knows the lyrics of by heart.
