The Ant-Man franchise will open Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which will be followed by Phase 6 starting in the early part of 2025. The next two Phases will be shorter than usual, likely due to Marvel Studios' increased production rate with Disney Plus series entering the fray. All of this will lead up to the culminating event of the “Multiverse Saga”, projected to be Avengers: Secret Wars in 2026, which will be completed sooner than the long-running “Infinity Saga” (2008-2019).

Now that you're well-versed on the current standing of the MCU and what lies ahead, read further to find out more regarding Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If you need to get caught up on Marvel's theatrical releases, take a look at our guide to all Marvel movies chronologically, including the much-anticipated Phase 4 closer, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has a confirmed release date of February 17, 2023 both in the US and the UK. It is expected that other international markets will have the same date, though some others have yet to be determined.

It is interesting that the third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is due for release on May 5, is arriving less than three months before the Ant-Man movie.Marvel Studios appears intent on kicking off Phase 5 of their franchise with lots of science fiction. After Quantumania, viewers will be able to watch the Skrull-filled Secret Invasion series on Disney Plus, and later on The Marvels, directed by Nia DaCosta, promises further sci-fi excitement at the cinema.

As a result of what took place in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), Paul and Hank's families have been reunited, setting the stage for a much greater challenge for them all. Director Peyton Reed has indicated that the Ant-Man movie will carry a darker atmosphere plus a much higher level of danger, as it has the important job of making people, both hardcore fans and casual viewers, take Kang seriously as an equivalent to Thanos in terms of being a monumental danger to the entire Marvel universe (and multiverse).

According to Evangeline Lilly, the movie will delve into the frailties and weaknesses of each character, while Reed has commented that the core of the narrative will be around Scott and Cassie's relationship. Fans of Marvel will be able to guess that Cassie Lang's arc leads to her eventual becoming the superheroine known as Stature; the first trailer has further confirmed this, and hints at even more than just Kang's impending danger.

Confirmed to be returning for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are Paul Rudd (Scott Lang, or Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne, alias Wasp), Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet van Dyne), David Dastmalchian (Kurt), and Randall Park (Jimmy Woo). Also rumored to appear is Corey Stoll (Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket), who seemed to have perished in the first Ant-Man movie.

Joining the cast of the highly-anticipated Disney+ series 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' is Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, in the form of the already-seen version 'He Who Remains' (pictured above). Bill Murray and William Jackson Harper have also boarded the project in yet-to-be-revealed roles which are believed to be tied to the Quantum Realm in some capacity.

After finding success with directing the two prior Ant-Man movies and creating two episodes of The Mandalorian’s second season, Peyton Reed has returned to the director’s chair. Putting together this project is Rick and Morty scribe Jeff Loveness, who is also responsible for writing the upcoming Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, slated to release in 2025.

Movie buffs are likely to be taken aback by the introduction of renowned cinematographer Bill Pope to the making of Quantumania; Pope had almost taken the reins of filming the original Ant-Man film prior to Edgar Wright's appointment as director. Last year, Mr. Pope made his MCU debut with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
