Creator Expresses Disappointment After Netflix Cancels ‘Inside Job’
On Monday, January 9 show creator Shion Takeuchi revealed that Netflix had changed their mind regarding the renewal of Inside Job for its second season, despite the announcement of renewal in June. This outcome proves that, despite a show being renewed, it does not necessarily guarantee its safety from cancellation.
Inside Job is a workplace comedy following a team led by robotics engineer Reagan Ridley (Lizzy Caplan) set in the shadow organization Cognito, Inc., which works to control the world.
The first season of Inside Job was split into two parts, with its initial premiere in October 2021 and the second part following in November 2022. In June, Netflix had initially granted Inside Job a second season renewal, yet apparently has now rescinded the decision.
The creator of Gravity Falls expressed their heartbreak on confirming Netflix's decision to cancel Inside Job's Season 2. Having formed an attachment to the characters, they felt devastated not to be able to see them develop further. They thanked viewers for joining them on the journey and despite their sadness, finding some solace in the knowledge of others who shared their love for the characters.
Netflix has yet to release an official statement regarding the cancelation of its series Inside Job. Newsweek has reached out to the streaming service for further comment.
The show debuted its first season in 2021, with a total of 18 episodes split into ten for its first half and eight for its second. In June 2022, Netflix had announced the show's renewal during their Geeked Week conference.
Takeuchi was not only the creator and showrunner of Inside Job Season 1, but she also serves as an executive producer along with Gravity Falls' Alex Hirsch and Mike Hollingsworth, who directed BoJack Horseman. The series features a star-studded cast, including Caplan, Christian Slater, Clark Duke, Tisha Campbell, John DiMaggio, Brett Gelman, Andy Daly, and Chris Diamantopoulos, with William Jackson Harper and Adam Scott appearing in recurring roles.
