Tory Lanez Found Guilty of Three Charges in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case
A Los Angeles jury ruled on Friday that rapper and singer Tory Lanez was guilty of three charges associated with the shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020, as per reports from the Los Angeles County District Attorney.
Lanez had pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence. The jury convicted him on all three counts.
Megan had accused Lanez of shooting her foot after she left the car they had been in following an argument. In her testimony at the trial, she said that the atmosphere in the vehicle between herself, Lanez, and her former friend and assistant, Kelsey Harris was tense. According to Billboard Magazine, she testified that Lanez had wanted her to admit to Harris that they had been intimate, but Megan felt uncomfortable with that because she was aware that Harris had a crush on the Canadian singer and rapper. She stated that she had stepped out when she was shot by Lanez.

Megan Thee Stallion gave an emotional testimony during the court proceedings of Tory Lanez on Monday, recounting the incident on July 12th in which she was shot in both feet.
"I started walking away and I hear Tory yell, 'Dance, b***h'," she said tearfully. "I just felt shock. I felt hurt. I looked down at my feet and I see all of this blood."
In response to the verdict, LA County DA George Gascón released a statement praising Megan for her courage and vulnerability during the trial, despite the unjust and despicable scrutiny she had been subject to.
"You have been an inspiration to others across LA County and the nation," he said. "Women, especially Black women, are afraid to report crimes like assault and sexual violence because they are too often not believed. This trial highlights the numerous ways that our society must do better for women."
Gascón's comments come after the conviction of Harvey Weinstein on three of seven charges on Monday.
